Ultrasound Scanning
Using a 64 element high definition crystal display mobile scanning device, we can conduct pregnancy confirmation scans from day 30 post gestation. This device is fully mobile and can record videos and images that you can keep.
With canine and feline scanning, opinion on number counting is very much split. There can be no argument that ultrasound is highly ineffective when it comes to number counting, when compared with an imaging modality like x-ray. This is because, particularly in larger litters: it’s very easy for one puppy to be obscured by another ultrasound is a real-time imaging modality. The bitch is moving, the pups are moving, and the transducer is moving. Knowing which sac you’ve already seen and counted is very difficult – and with larger litters, impossible. Having said this, almost all experienced scanners will be happy to give you a number range. Particularly if they’re scanning at the 30 day mark, where the sacs are smaller and it’s easier to discern one from the next, they may be comfortable in telling you that you can expect “more than 6” or “between 4-6,” for example. It’s important to realise that even this is not a fool-proof estimate; at this early stage, it’s perfectly normal for a bitch to resorb, so that all the puppies seen at the first scan may not continue to progress.
